Happy Halloween!!!!!

I've been consumed by the show Cinderella Skeleton and so my halloween costume is pretty lame this year. Oh also It's pretty hard to go out because we got a foot of snow in CT and nobody has power. But here ya go!

Music Monday

Melissa: Happy Halloween!

Also, I'm back, bitches! I took a small hiatus and now I have a computer again! So it's Music Monday and Halloween. And I know Rachel's been doing a lot of soundtracks. So here's a parody for you all that I heard on the radio a few nights ago.

I know the old-timey monster movies are great, but pay attention to the words. High-larious!

Fashion Friday!

Rachel:
It's getting closer, getting near, what are you dressing up for on Halloween this year?
It's childish, stupid, and boring you shout, but remember even celebrities pull costumes out.

Fashion Friday!

Rachel:
It's almost Halloween time and that means costume choices. Loads and loads of them. While I ponder if I should stick to Kaylee from Firefly or go as The Bear Jew from Inglorious Bastards, please look upon these Tim Burton inspired fashion images and know you will never be as cool as his movies in the late 80's.

If I lived in a Francesca Lia Block novel (One day? Please? I wish I wish I wish...) this is how I would dress. These images are from a FunkydelicWow website called Treasure Trash, of which I have many many  favorites.

WTF!!!

Dear Diary/World/Our Friends and Family/whoever stole my shit,

Katie's and my computer was stolen from our home last Saturday, the 8th. Yes, my birthday. I was prepared to write a wonderful little birthday post about how my mom used to plan the best birthdays ever and how I have always had epic parties (and trust me, this year it was epic once again, despite the break-in).

But instead I came home to a home with missing items, an open back window, and an overwhelming sense of hopelessness and violation. Happy 23rd, kids.

Let me reassure everyone that we are safe, no one was home, we have serial numbers for all the important things, and we had all of our doors locked, and our lights on. The window that was opened was at least 10 feet off the ground, so some bitch had to work. We filed a police report, though I doubt much will come of it. At least our cop looked like Bill Hader.

So Katie and I are taking a small hiatus from the blog because...well...despite the fact we don't have access to computers all the time, we are just emotionally exhausted. We are also in the process of trying to make our 1920s home safer. So thanks, Jackass-who-stole-my-stuff. I hope you bought a death needle with the drugs you traded for my 2-month old Mac. Fuck. You.

Thanks, everyone,

Melissa

Dear Diary

Dear Diary,
I don't understand why life is so unfair. Like why booze costs so much or why drag queens are prettier than me. And, get this Diary, I can't even figure out what I want to do for Halloween. I want to do the slutty girl thing but I am So. Over. That. It only produces bad decisions and sparkles.

Fashion Friday!

Melissa:
1) My birthday is tomorrow!!
2) My allergies are kicking in and I'm full of snot!!

So currently my face is plunged over a steaming pot with rosemary steeping inside. Gross. But it has inspired my Fashion Friday! I'm big into homemade DIY beauty remedies. Yes, I love Bath and Body Works and Lush and that whole shebang. But I can't afford it half the time, and the other half the time it's not worth it to buy whatever it is I want. I also have tons of skin problems so I am very peculiar about what I use on my face. So below I've listed several of my favorite DIY beauty remedies.

Basil Toner: This is seriously the best toner ever. It's easy to make and it tightens pores like nobodies business.

Ingredients:
2-3 tsp. dried basil leaves
1 cup boiling water.

Instructions:
Steep 10-20 mins. Cool, and apply with cotton ball
Lavender Spray for the Face/Body/whatever you want to spray.
Put a few drops of Lavender essential oil into a small spray bottle you bought at $1 at Target. Fill the rest of the bottle with water, and shake. Spray on your face, bed, after a shower, before you go out. Whatever. I love this stuff!

Sugar & Spice Face Scrub Recipe: I made this for the girls last Christmas. Rachel loved hers.

Ingredients:
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 tablespoon dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon almond oil (I used Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Works just as well)
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 Tbsp ground oatmeal
1 tsp cinnamon

Instructions:
Combine all ingredients. Scrub face with mixture 2-3 minutes then rinse.
Egg and Honey Face Mask: This is my favorite go-to mask. It's so easy and feels good once your done.

Ingredients:
1 egg (I frequently use the white, after I've used a yolk for baking something.)
2 tbs. milk
1 tbs. honey

Instructions:
mix all ingredients well until creamy. smooth on the face and sit for 15 to 20 minutes. rinse with lukewarm water the cold water.

Rachel:
I sit upon my stoop and think, of all the things I've seen, of rolling hills of golden wheat, of forests evergreen. I close my eyes and take a step and tumble down below, where purple nights and strange delights before my eyes are shown. With petal skirts and naked feet I enter a forest glen, and to the Seelie I gladly go, and am never seen again.

Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand.
For the world's more full of weeping
Than you can understand.

Melissa:

Russell Brand Wednesday

Dear Russell, Why aren't we best friends?

Music Monday

Melissa:

So when we were in England, we made friends with Nick Bombicino. Now he's got his own YouTube channel called Monday Mashups. These started with just him, a ukelele, and a Macbook. He's expanded to more instrumentation and full-on videos. Oh, Nick I'm so proud! Also, if you like Mash-ups these are awesome! Here's the lastest:

Rolling In the Deep/Grenade/Just Can't Get Enough

Rachel:
Speaking of England, (Miss you Nick!) everybody should check out this rock'n dude called Duke Special. We first discovered him while seeing Mother Courage in 2009. His music style is hard to explain, because it makes one skip and thrash.

This song has been stuck in my head for days:

Did I mention Duke has Funkydelicwow Hair?

Dear Diary

Dear Diary,
I totally meant to be productive this weekend. I went blackberry picking but got harassed by a bunch of spiders and was like hot damn spiders I just want the berries I'm not going to rip down your web or eat you. Gawd. Then I was like, ok, I have to buckle down and work but I ended up hanging out with zombies and a Bear Jew instead. Weird.
XOXO, Rachel

Dear Diary,

This week was crazy! People at work got the plague, and mugged. And then I met a bunch of zombies and Eli Roth at a party. And it was my mom's birthday (shout-out!) And Dave Matthews came into my work today! Too. Weird. And it was the last episode of Doctor Who! :( And the re-discovery of verymarykate.com. :) Watch it, Harmony! Hope next week is great! Thanks, Diary!
XOXO, Melissa

Dear Diary,
Why the fuck is "Snow White" carrying a shield with the Tree of Gondor on it?

Just sayin......
