Fashion Friday!

Melissa:
So I'm a big fan of DIY stuff (prepare for a lot more DIY from me, btw). And I found this lovely DIY bracelet. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan on it soon. ]

Harmony's Literate Moment

So um once upon a time in the 1940's there was this girl and she was forced to live in an Annex with her family and another family and this kinda cute guy named Peter and she wrote this diary and it was getting really good and then all of a sudden it stopped. Weird. But yeah I really hope they make a movie out of The Princess Diaries.

Music Monday

Rachel
In my imaginary life, I am ageless. I leap from world to world, through space and time, traveling through Arthur's England, and Froud's Faerie Markets. Mostly I dance. I dance with peasants, with members of the seelie and unseelie courts, with dark princes and ice queens. I dance with strangers, old friends, and people & creatures I will soon come to know. If this imaginary life were a movie, it would be scored by Loreena McKennitt. Her music makes me think of easier stranger days that I have never known. Loreena McKennitt's music seems old and young, hauntingly beautiful, dreadfully sad and wondrously happy.

My favorite song is The Mummers Dance which always makes me think of a glowing golden dense forest in the twilight hours.

It is now I make my confession to the shame of the Quad. I like Loreena McKennitt more than Enya. A sin in the Celtic music world-I know-but McKennitt's music moves me in a way I cannot describe, and in a way Enya's music never could.

Dear Diary

Dear Diary,
This week I learned that all bois in the world are the exact same. I meet a new guy and was like 'oh this guy is TOTALLY cute' and he was like "yea blah blah blah pretentiousness blah blah" which seemed really familiar. Then I found out he was a music major and of Italian descent and I was like OMG world that's like the same as the last three guys I dated. No wonder Katy Perry went to space to find a cute alien boi. Does anyone know where I can book a flight with NASA?
XOXO,Rachel

Are you there Diary?
It's me, Burgermouth. Oh my god, so, like today? I turned on the radio because, like, I was all stuck in traffic because, like some effing retard crashed his car into three other cars and blocked THE ENTIRE ENTRANCE TO THE HIGHWAY!!!! :(
So, like, anyway, I was listening to the radio and it was, like, this classical station and stuff, and I was all "This isn't so bad" so, like I kept listening to it, right? And the more I listened to it the more I kept thinking, like, "Wow, this is so soothing, I bet it would be really cool to butcher meat to this. Like, I could cut the meat really gracefully on beat with the music and the slicing sound would feel so gratifying with all of the soothing violins." And I just, like, kept thinking about it, and what I would wear when I was doing this, and how much fun it would be, and how relaxing it would be after a hard day of work.
Then I realized that I was pulling into my street and I had no recollection of my drive home or how I got there, because I, like, totally spaced out thinking about all that classical music-butchering-stuff. Is that weird? :-/

Dear Diary,
Lalalala This is my life (insert theme to Daria here) I've discovered what an impact Joe Pesce has had on my life. Also I would like it very much if Ice T could be the voice of my eventual biography on tape.
xoxo H

Dear Diary,
Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate!

Fashion Friday!

Melissa:
So this isn't really about fashion. More about my own crafty hobbies. See my Japanese-monolingual-grandmother taught me to crochet about 2 years ago. And I'm not very good at it. But since I don't have a working sewing machine right now and I feel the horrible, desperate need to create something with my hands, I decided to pick up my hooks and go to town! Also, it's a really nice bus hobby.

what I actually look like

what I look like 90% of the time

what I look like the other 10%. Also, trying to figure out Photobooth

what my boss at Payless looks like. Seriously

But seriously, these are really cute hats. Here are the actually links if you wanna be creative.
Yellow Urban Revivial Hat
Red Easy Slouchy Hat

The red hat is ridiculously easy, and the yellow hat is a little bit harder. I had to adjust the size on each one a tiny bit to fit my head and my style (I don't like hats that look like giant pizzas on my head). But it's your choice and hey, it's fall. Hats are cool!

Rachel:
Bahahahaha!!! Melissa has a funny face. Moving on...

Sticking with my Men Fashion Theme, I would love to laugh about Men's Pants in the Regency Era. I love them. I love them on Colin Firth. I love them on Alan Rickman. I love them on Toby Stephens, and by god, if I had access to a pair you bet my previous boyfriends/boy-toys would have been shoved in a pair faster than you can say 'Edward Rochester."

But in all seriousness, they are ridiculous. What is that silly flap at the front? Easy access flap? Overly large pocket? Why are the pants so high? Why are they always a white to a vanilla cream?

Anyway, these pants are awesome and every male should own a pair. Seriously. EVERY. MALE. SHOULD. OWN. A. PAIR.  So any guy who wants to........................have stimulating conversations that enlighten the mind & soul on Halloween, wear those pants and look me up.

A Note About This Post: After doing a big of research I realized that Toby Stephens does not actually wear Regency pants in Jayne Eyre for obvious reasons,( Time Stamp: 1847) but for the good of womankind he should have.

Melissa:
Note:
1- Toby Stephens could wear anything previous to the Edwardian Era and I'd desperately want to rip it off of him in a passion. Sorry, Mom, if you read that.
2- My most recent boyfriend was offered a pair of these pants. His fashion designer roommate had to make them for a class. And I was so excited. I asked about them for about 2 months straight and when they weren't made I was very upset. I'm still a little upset because that would have been a fantasy come true. Seriously, Men, get a pair of these. Right. Now.

Harmony's Literate Moment

Once upon a time there was this chick named Juliet and she fell for a guy who was part of a rival family blah blah blah Tybalt's dead and I really don't know why they make us read Uncle Toms Cabin in school anymore.

Music Monday

Rachel:
I've always been addicted to the pounding drums and glorious bagpipe whistles at the Renaissance Faire. To the embarrassment of my friends, I always force them to stay for the dance party at the end. (Thanks for not hating me Caitlin & Angel!!!)
The best band I have EVER seen at the Renaissance Faire is Tartanic. Their songs make me dance, jump, twirl, stomp, and lift my hands up to the air.

Check them out at their website
http://www.tartanic.net/

Or look for them at your local Renaissance Faire.

My Favorite Tartanic Songs:
1. Briefcase No. 1
2. Clumsy A-Hole
3. Dance of the Ice Weasels

Melissa:
Hey remember that time we met Kate Nash and she was freaking awesome? Actually, she was incredibly scared of us and wanted us gone. But her concert in Denver was fantastic and totally worth the money/6 hour drive!

Me, Kate, Harm, Rachel, and our friend Liz

We love her! So for my Music Monday, I've included my favorite Kate Nash song. It's "Nicest Thing" off her first album, Made of Bricks

Dear Diary

Dear Diary,
I'm tired. The Chocolate Factory is exhausting, the Oompa Loompas play tricks on me, and squirrels in the Nut Room be bitches. It's been a long week, Diary....but I stole some chocolate today and I'm making pudding!
XOXO, Melissa

Dear Diary,
Where the fuck that heavy cream ? Oh, my bad, it be right hur. I'm funna make some motherfucking cream puffs. Damn, I don' know how to work that oven. Sho', where my bitch be at? Harms! Make me a mutherfucking creampuff. SMILEY FACE.
XOXO, Rachel

Dear Diary,
This week I went on a date with a fireman. Turns out poles are now illegal in firehouses. And the firehouse didn't have a dalmatian....that's like peanut butter without jelly. He was sweet, and paid. I like this so far.
XOXO, Harmony

Fashion Friday!

Rachel
I would like to discuss one of the best fads in Fashion History. Vests. Specifically men's vests. Specifically Joseph Gordon Levitt in a vest.
After staring at this glorious photo much longer than needed be, JGL's handsome being has
taken the thoughts right out of my head. What was I typing about? Does it even matter
anymore?
No. No it doesn't.

My favorite Sexy-Men-In-Vests sites:

Rachel's Vest Motto: Ya' got a vest, ya' got a Rachel. (Hipsters not included in Rachel's Vest
Motto.)

Melissa:
Can we just talk about Christina Hendrick's boobs for a second? Seriously, those things are glorious! I was on using my stumbleupon and there they were.

Now, I like my boobs. They're perky, and a good proportion to my body. But I am so jealous of her boobs. Even while I was writing this post, I couldn't stop staring! Have you seen the 2 episodes of Firefly she's in? Oh. My. God. I'm obsessed so with her boobs that I had to put a post about it on Fashion Friday. She's so gorgeous, I can't even handle it!

Harmony's Literary Moment

Melissa:
So since Harmony didn't do her Literary Moment yesterday (we are very busy folk), I'm going to do it for her today! Shhh, I haven't told her yet...but this is my all-time favorite:

So there was this dumbass bear. And he had all these friends, like a depressed donkey, an ADD tiger (wtf?) and a little pig. And they played in the woods, blah blah blah, and All Quiet On the Western Front wasn't all it cracked up to be.

Five British Stereotypes That Are True

Melissa:
Remember that one time we all lived in England? Remember how we are all dying to go back? Seriously, my goal in life is to go to grad school in England before I'm thirty and living out the rest of my days.

That being said, British people are utterly ridiculous. I mean, they're British. They have a history of imperialism, inbreeding, and high tea. Now, I like stereotypes. Why? Because they're funny, slightly offensive, take a sense of political humor to fully appreciate, and they're true. Asian people have black hair and are short. My entire Japanese side of the family, including myself, fit this. It's true, and a stereotype.

So when I found this blog post on BBC America I had to repost it. It's funny, true, and reminds me of London. Oh how I miss thee! I hope you enjoy this post as much as I did.

Music Monday

Melissa
It's Music Monday, y'all!! So for whatever reason I've been obsessively listening to Mumford and Sons Sigh No More album. Maybe because I've just moved, maybe because I'm sad about leaving certain people back in Santa Fe, maybe because it's just really good music. Anyway, this is my favorite song right now (also check out "I Gave You All"). I guess there's a whole series of videos of the band recording in a bookstore. How cool is that! Even though I doubt books create decent acoustics.

"White Blank Page" (The Bookshop Sessions)

Rachel
I AM A HUGE DISNEY SOUNDTRACK FAN. Now that I've gotten that embarrassing confession out of the way, let me just say, I have not loaded a Disney Soundtrack into my computer since June of 2009. (The Lion King, if you must know.) This is a shame. Sure, I've downloaded a song here (The Journey,The Rescuers) and a song there (Stand Out, A Goofy Movie) but nay has an album touched my ipod in many a year.

Ladies and Gents, Alan Menken is a god among composers. Not only has he revamped the sounds and styles from the Disney Golden Era (Beauty and the Beast, Mermaid, etc.) but he has taken my heart with Tangled

I DARE YOU to listen to Kingdom Dance and not twirl like it's 1605, and I dare you to not feel inspired by I've Got A DreamIf you haven't seen this movie, drop everything and see it. It's like the movies of our childhood (assuming you grew up in the late eighties/early nineties). Oh, and I dare you not to cry.

Harmony
I'm obsessed with acoustic covers. Rachel and I saw saw these girls do this song when they opened for Rooney last February. It was the coldest day ever in NM and we got $5 hot totties, overall a wonderful night.

Dear Diary

Dear Diary,
This week I learned that 'Fat Bottom Girl' not only is an acceptable karaoke song, but it let me rock out with my socks out. Which would have been great if I had been wearing socks. I also learned that people who work at Starbucks get a free pound of coffee a week. Diary, I'm never sleeping again!!
        XOXO Rachel

Dear Diary,
Tomorrow  I start work at Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. It's kind of a drive away, but totally worth it. The Oompa Loompas are actually really nice, and easy to tell apart. And the chocolate waterfall tastes delicious.
      XOXO, Melissa

Burgers for Your Mind: A Venture in Poetic Thinking by BurgerMouth

So you know how blind people read in Braille, right?
Well, what if, like, when they read, the scary parts are super scary- because they're not like us- they can't see- so they can't see the scary words that are coming up, and then they jump and freak out. Wouldn't that be weird to watch?

THE BEGINNING

There once was a girl named Katie
She didn't want to go to school, so she ran away to Haiti
She stole an eight ball
Then ran into a mall
Where she ran in to three other girls and then they were friends THE END.

Fashion Friday!

Harmony: In honor of fall being upon us, I decided to post a fall look I'm quite fond of.

I stumbled upon the blog Cupcakes and Cashmere and fell in love. Check it out, I hope you love it as much as I do.

Melissa:
So we loved this show called Secret Diary of a Call Girl. And there was an actress in series 2, Ashely Madekwe, who was super cute. Well, I found out recently, she has a fashion blog! It's call Ring My Bell and it's extremely successful in Europe. And her pictures taken by her hot boyfriend, Iddo Goldberg, who was also on Secret Diary. Hope you like it!

Rachel: My idea of fashion up until seventh grade was a t-shirt and jeans/shorts depending on the weather. Ten years later, and still half stuck in grade school land, here are three things I know I enjoy.

1. The Trench Coat.
Ideally black, ideally Burberry, this coat is has many uses. The love of these coats probably stemmed from a early reading of Dracula, to a love of Van Helsing, a love of most things vampiric, Gothic, and how all the really sexy boys in films wore them.

2. Geek Jewelry

I am a very shy person. If I wear something from a TV show/movie/book that I love, it just saves me the time of trying to weed out people who have my interests. They come to me and it spares me minutes of awkward introductory conversation. I love pendants and am a mega nerd. Shut up Harmony Joy.

3. Punk Rock Style

Maybe it's just the reminder of all the fun times in 8th grade where I did sport combat boots, plaid skirts over ripped tights, and old school rock T-shirts. Maybe it's growing up with movies like The Lost Boys and Breakfast Club. Maybe it's because of the Fuck-You-I-Don't-Give-A-Shit attitude that comes with the clothing. Whatever it is, I would dress like this all the time if I could. And yes, I do own that skirt.

http://www.yaguza.com/

BurgerMouth
Uh, yeah, so fashion........ I like it.
But I WILL tell you what I DON'T like and what I DON'T consider to be fashion.
Yesterday I walked by a store. My friend walking next to me told me "Oh yeah, that store- it sells clothes for cyclists, but, like, whimsical, fashionable clothes, to people who have a fondness for riding bikes, so they can ride bikes, and also maintain a sense of identity."
First of all, you are not allowed to "maintain a sense of identity" while cycling, you are supposed to wear the "cyclist gear" so that everybody KNOWS WHAT YOU ARE (and knows that cyclist gear= undeserved sense of entitlement, which means "Rules of the road? What's that? I'm saving the world, so I'm above all those petty human laws, tah-dee-dah".
All I have to say is, a wolf can never shed it's wolf's coat, I mean... look at what happened to Hester Prynn in The Scarlet Letter!

*note: Author actually doesn't know what happened, she never finished the book.

Harmony's Literary Moment

So I'm reading this really mind-bending book right now, there's this chick Hester Prynne (wtf kinda name is that?) and she's has a kid out of marriage blah blah blah the 17th Century was lame, and ya know I don't think Catcher in the Rye is as deep as everyone says.

Russell Brand Wednesday

Melissa:
So it's important to note that the Quad has a sort of relationship with Russell Brand, that hilarious Cockney Comedian.
Harmony: Love Him!
Besides Harmony continually calling him her boyfriend (she doesn't acknowledge the existence of Katy Perry) we have spotted individually 4 separate times in London. Once Harmony and I were at Tesco's buying groceries and he was there. Rachel went back to Tesco's later that week and saw him. (What's with him and the Earls Court grocery store?) Once we all saw him jogging at Hampton Heath where he was selling his flat in order to move in with Katy Perry. And once Harmony and Rachel paid to see him. He did a benefit show at Royal Albert Hall.

Ever since then we like to believe that we have some sort of cosmic connection. So in honor of RB,  first Wednesday (Hump Day!) of the month shall be Russell Brand day!

Two-fer! Russell Brand on The Graham Norton Show, our favorite British chat show.

Music Monday

From henceforth every Monday shall be Music Monday! We shall discuss whatever music we are currently listening or obsessing about. Unless Harmony puts Justin Beiber, or anyone puts Journey. I will personally destroy that person!

Melissa: Let's talk about Treemotel. I love them. It's a group of kids we know back from Santa Fe. They started playing last August and Rachel and I called them "Hobbit Man Screams Words". (Sidenote: we didn't know Mark, the lead singer's name, at the time. So we called him Hobbit Man.) Anyway, after a while we became huge fans. Like most everyone else we know. In fact, for my friend Robert's birthday I asked the band to make him a Treemotel t-shirt. Because he IS their biggest fan. The members of the band even call him that.

Anyway, now that I've moved to Seattle and their CD is stuck in my car (literally, because my CD drive is broke) my favorite thing to do is blast their music and drive around. Here's their myspace page. "Billy Rocket" is my current obsession, but "Jubilation" was my favorite last month.

Harmony: I feel like this song is applicable for all 4 of us.

Rachel: I am not a fan of country. Sure, I own a couple of Taylor Swift songs (at least I'm brave enough to admit it), and some  Sheryl Crow, and who can resist rocking out to Jace Everett's Bad Things? Other than that-ZIP ZILCH NADDA. I'm just not that into listening to people who sing about their dog/dead wife/tractor.

That being said, my friend Carolyn introduced me to this band The Civil Wars and they stole my heart. I only own one album, Barton Hollow, but I've listened to it at least six times already. And that doesn't include how many times I listened to it while driving from Chicago to Seattle. (Fantastic driving music.)

I love everything on the album but this week my favorites (they rotate, much like my favorite Treemotel songs) are Poison & Wine, and Barton HollowTo Whom It May Concern is also great-Hell. Just check these guys out. It'll be country you'll enjoy.

Do I still have friends? A QUAD MEETING

Harmony:

This is actually kind of simple.
I didn't like Melissa, she reminded me of every obnoxious Music Theatre inclined girl I'd ever met and despised. I wanted no part of it. This was until we had many mutual friends and one day we were in Kevin's room and she asked my advice about make-up on ulta.com. Then we went to London and Mildred and Maude fell in love. Oh also I was constantly saving her from oncoming traffic. True love.

I had acting class with Rachel and she seemed quiet. I don't understand quiet people. We had several mutual friends and would casually talk. Then in London I would constantly make her feel uncomfortable by trying to hug/violate her personal space in any way possible. We shared a love of Russell Brand and she came to see Legally Blonde the musical with me. Opposites attracted :)

Katie, katie, katie......like most I thought katie was going to murder me, or that she was naturally angry all the time. I cannot remember the first time we spoke...but I knew we both had a great love and NEED for coffee. I enjoyed her love of fashion and general intensity about life. We agreed we would be roomates and become London party girls. I say job well done.

Dear Diary

Dear Diary,
This week I realized that the real world is hard. Too hard for me. I walked all over the city trying to find a job. Now my bum hurts! So I will spend the rest of my Labor Day weekend in a t-shirt and underpants. Not being an adult is the best! Off to buy ice cream now! Phish Food!
XOXO, Melissa

Dear Diary,
Today I realized that wearing liquid eyeliner means committing to a day of pain, misery and suffering. Have you ever seen the scene in Indiana Jones and The Raiders of The Lost Ark where that Nazi(s) face melts off? That happened to me when I was driving-but with my make-up, so everybody driving next to me thought I was crying uncontrollably, which I was, but not because I was sad, but because it felt like Satan was pissing in my eyes. I then started to cry because I realized I hated traffic. Then I realized I was a loser. I had a good day :)
XOXO, Katie

Dear Diary,
This week I learned that The Game of Life is nothing like life. I would never throw a charity ball for an athlete. I don't even play tennis!!! I also learned that Mojitos taste like a alcoholic garden. Mmmmmmm. Can't wait to go gardening again!
XOXO, Rachel

Dear Diary,
My feet hurt and I wish I had servants. Why do heels look so pretty yet hurt so much? This week I got a home, now I shall make it to my liking. Wish me luck!
XOXO, Harmony

Fashion Friday!

Every Friday shall from here til Eternity be Fashion Friday! We're chicks, we're cute, hip, and mostly importantly Katie and Harmony have a deep love of fashion. So this is inspired by them.

Melissa: In honor of moving to the NW, I am posting this:

This image is from an article from 2009's Paste magazine. I'm sure it's shown up on everyone's stumbleupon, but I couldn't resist. Mostly because my now-ex-boyfriend (it was mutual and we're still friends, kids) told me he never found me hotter than the time I asked "what's a three wolf moon shirt?" Thanks to this article, now I know. Here's to you, Washington hipsters! See you at the Pabst Bar.

Harmony's Contribution:
Ok, so I am a self-proclaimed beauty junkie. I love make-up to no end and thank god I can pound it on like a drag queen without looking horrid. I stumbled upon this blog and fell in love, enjoy.
