From henceforth every Monday shall be Music Monday! We shall discuss whatever music we are currently listening or obsessing about. Unless Harmony puts Justin Beiber, or anyone puts Journey. I will personally destroy that person!
Melissa: Let's talk about Treemotel. I love them. It's a group of kids we know back from Santa Fe. They started playing last August and Rachel and I called them "Hobbit Man Screams Words". (Sidenote: we didn't know Mark, the lead singer's name, at the time. So we called him Hobbit Man.) Anyway, after a while we became huge fans. Like most everyone else we know. In fact, for my friend Robert's birthday I asked the band to make him a Treemotel t-shirt. Because he IS their biggest fan. The members of the band even call him that.
Anyway, now that I've moved to Seattle and their CD is stuck in my car (literally, because my CD drive is broke) my favorite thing to do is blast their music and drive around. Here's their myspace page. "Billy Rocket" is my current obsession, but "Jubilation" was my favorite last month.
Harmony: I feel like this song is applicable for all 4 of us.
Rachel: I am not a fan of country. Sure, I own a couple of Taylor Swift songs (at least I'm brave enough to admit it), and some Sheryl Crow, and who can resist rocking out to Jace Everett's Bad Things? Other than that-ZIP ZILCH NADDA. I'm just not that into listening to people who sing about their dog/dead wife/tractor.
That being said, my friend Carolyn introduced me to this band The Civil Wars and they stole my heart. I only own one album, Barton Hollow, but I've listened to it at least six times already. And that doesn't include how many times I listened to it while driving from Chicago to Seattle. (Fantastic driving music.)
I love everything on the album but this week my favorites (they rotate, much like my favorite Treemotel songs) are Poison & Wine, and Barton Hollow. To Whom It May Concern is also great-Hell. Just check these guys out. It'll be country you'll enjoy.
