Melissa:
How did we meet? How did we become this mighty foursome? How did we became this hurricane of force that could rip a hole in time and space, if we so chose? Well, it’s a story, of friendship, adventure and near-death. It’s important that you, dear reader, know the story because we weren’t always the Quadriforce.
I personally don’t remember any specific introductions to any of these girls. I remember hearing that Harmony was snobby to a friend of mine before I met her. I remember Katie always looking really intense and her yelling “My name is Katherine Kuntz, and it rhymes with Vagina” once at a party in the mountains. I remember Rachel doing a monologue from Antigone. But that’s about it for first impressions.
Eventually, I became friends with Katie and Rachel. Katie and I used to drink a lot in her room freshman year (Remember the days when Prestige didn’t make my stomach lining curl up in fear?) Rachel and I greet each other at lunch and breakfast. But Harmony and I were enemies. Not even fre-nemies, straight-up girl-fighting, chick-hating enemies. We used to share with our mutual friend Kellie how much we disliked each other. And she’d tell us what the other said, because apparently we were equally amused with our enmity.
Now comes the part with joy and near-death. The four of us decided, “Hell, I’m going to London!” Time to study abroad! So we went. We inherited the previous London groups apartment, shared two rooms, and proceeded to have the best time of our lives.
We almost died twice. Once in Rome, we missed our train to Florence, so a group of women from Malta took us under their wing and got us to Florence. At 2 a.m.
We almost died in the suburbs of France. We were lost, without a proper phone number, and cold. At 11 o’clock at night. I almost died everyday because I have a nasty habit of walking into traffic. Everytime Harmony saved me. Except in Dublin when Rachel has to.
We cemented our friendship in London. And we certainly distinguished ourselves from the other students in the school. We were loud, abrasive, strong, and could somehow almost always managed to get free drinks. (Shout out to Walkabout!) We were certainly a force to be reckoned with. Katie came up with the name.
So here we are now. Graduates trying to make our way. Rachel, Katie and I moved to the Northwest and Harmony lives on the East Coast. But no matter how far the distance, we are still the Quadriforce.
AMEN!!!!
